You need a tech2 scan tool to do this properly.
Locksmiths want as much as a dealer, $100+ to program. Yes some modules work but will not erase existing fobs. If you can find one that erases first it shoulf work. If the slots are full then you won't be able to program new until those are cleared.
I just bought a tech2 clone last year for $400 and been saving money since. With the programming savings and being able to clear bogus codes that pop up from time to time its paid for itself.

And AP3 is the build code to look for on your glovebox door for your factory remote start feature.

That may be true with some 2010's, 2011's. I think the reason GM said "Do Not Use after 2009 M.Y." is because there was another remote start option added on some HHR's for the last 2 years of production.
RPO code: VBS-- Accessory Remote Start - Two Way Advanced

It's a little confusing trying to figure it out on the 2010's and 2011's.
My guess is the ones with the standard equipped RS will have the AP3 code. The ones with the Two Way Advanced RS will not have that AP3 code, although they still have a RS.
Like I said, just guessing on this.

The reason it does not apply is because it does not mean RVS after 2009 MY it means remote entry for 2010 MY I don't think it exists for 2011. There is no specific code for RVS in 2010-2011. What it really means before 2010 is "hood latch closed sensor installed".

I can't believe what people find to argue about.

We have had lots of good reports on the programmer module. The fobs are the problem. As I stated above it seems to be the Generic boards with a LED on the circuit board that will not work right. When Dorman started offering the kit they provided GM fobs, after a while they started sourcing generic fobs. The programming module works for both kinds of fob. You can get Genuine GM fobs on eBay/Amazon for a lot less than $50 each.

And since I am restating thousands of posts; Panic + Lock = RVS. You do not require a remote start button.

I see no argument. GM says one thing but my RPO sheet says another, no argument just little confusion created by GM (whats new?) as firemangeorge stated.
I appreciate firemangeorge adding that there was a change at some point before the end of production affecting a very limited number of cars adding to some confusion since their dates seem to be little off. Its something ill keep in mind for future posts, Thank you sir!
The poster never gave us a model year so chances are best that its earlier than a 2010 meaning they would be looking for the AP3 code.
