Key not opening door lock

Key not opening door lock
Went out to my Panel this afternoon to head for home..... put the key in the lock..... would not turn.... tried the key both ways up.... same result.... called service and he popped the lock via the door button..... NOW the key works fine?????
Have not had my spare key cut yet and am thinking that the one key I have may be worn to the edge of failing. I was going to take it and have it cut from the key I have, but am now thinking it prudent to take it and have it cut using the VIN just to be on the safe side.
I have noticed that at times I have to wiggle the key a bit in the ignition as well once in a while.
Any thoughts on this?
Cheers

My service truck sometimes has this problem. I shoot some Yield, same as wd40, into lock and problem goes away. I don't know where you live but if it is where you get freezing temperatures don't do this. Also I wouldn't put wd40 in my ignition lock, perhaps a little on the key. Get powered graphite and squirt that into the lock hole, it usually comes in a small plastic 'squeezable' container, also put some on the key and work it into the keyhole. Even if your lock is working now try this and see if your lock feels like it works easier.

If your main concern is that your key is worn the dealer can make you a key from your VIN number. Actually he uses your vin number to get a code number for the key cut and a code number for the transponder built into the key. Your key has a transponder in it if it has a 'plus (+)' stamped at the top of the key shaft. Most dealers can do this for any vehicle less than 10 years old, they don't keep records much after that. Try the graphite.

I think you're right in thinking the key is pooped out Doc, if it were just the door cylinder I'd think lubing it would be the solution, but if it is stubborn in the ignition too...then the key is suspect.
