when it comes to the tensioner bolt, ill go back out tomorrow and we can check the timing... we are gonna take timing chain covers off to see if there is anything at all broke and need replaced, cause if there is nothing broke or need replaced.. i dont know what is wrong to cause that noise.

rocker arms are good and everything attached, didnt see no jumped teeth either. my fear is something internal is bent.

Yes, your fears of internal damage may be well founded.

If the timng marks line up properly, and the chain is properly tenshioned, with the guides intact and you're still hearing that knocking sound.

Then it's internal damage, and finding the exact part/parts that failed will require a teardown.

At that point you need to weigh the economics of rebuilding your current engine against replacing it.

where would i find out how to tell if they are lined up right? we are tearing those off in next couple days to see if internal tensioner and guides are messed up or if they are ok and go from there.

the hunt down if that is ok is amounts weve already paired to just a replacement. our thoughts were with him and I doing labor... if its internal it can rack up to 700+ really quick and a hurry and that doesnt include the new timing chain set still, lol. so heres to hoping its in the timing chain department.

If you shoot a PM to donbrew and ask nicely, I'm sure he can send you the timing specs/setup instructions in PDF form.

My computer with all of the Service Manual PDF's is at my office in DC, and I'm home in the suburbs of Charlotte NC.

OK pretty sure we found it.. once the timing chain cover was off, there was kink in the chain at the bottom. some of the guides feel loose but not horrible.. so i think the chain is bad/stretched same as he thinks. so no motor swap for now.. ordered all new stuff for the timing chain. along with the tenioser pulley for the belt has no tension and the belt is shot.. looks like a gremlin ate the belt.

so new timing chain full kit.
belt
tensioner pulley.
valve cover gasket

and alternator was going bad.. so since this is all out and off... a 250 amp alternator w/ 0gauge wiring...

im hoping we found it... 3 cert mechs and my self. 2 said timing chain problem. 1 says sounds like internal rod if not timing chain.. so i guess we start with timing. all this stuff had to be ordered anyways.. if i yank another motor for it, these things helps cover its warranty...
