I also have had hub bearing replaced - Mine was on the passenger side. It made more of a "whirring/whining" sound than a knocking sound. It was not only speed sensitive, but load sensitive as well. It would get louder and/or quieter when you shifted the vehicles weight (like going through a slalom at medium/high speed). Good luck.
