Hey guys. Is there any way to adjust the rear lift gate. I noticed that when I got my ride back from the paint shop that the gate sags about 1/8th of an inch. It wouldn't bother me if it was one color but the fact that there is a white line painted right on the body line, it is super noticeable. Once I get this fixed and a few other small things, I will be posting before and after pics.
if the gate sags, most likely your lift-absorbers are dying.
There is another possible cause of the problem. You write that your gate was recently painted. The pivot hinges may be dirty. Examine them, make sure there is no dirt or thick paint, smear with a spray (silicone, lithol, WD40, whatever is at hand) - if the problem is solved, you're in luck. If it doesn’t help, it’s not scary, lift-absorbers are inexpensive and self-replacement is easy and quick.
There is no adjustment method.
I don't think the lift struts can affect the position of the gate.
Was it lined up correctly before it went to the paint shop? Was the white line always there and it lined up good before? If so, they may have unbolted the hinges holding the gate and then when they tightened them again the gate was down 1/8". The only way to adjust the position of the gate is to move the hinges.
Also, if the paint shop added the white line, they might have painted the line on the gate a little lower, making it looked misaligned.
Hint, a paint stir stick is about the right thickness to help with adjusting the gaps.
You will have to remove the plastic trim above the hatch to access the hinge bolts.
If the body shop didn’t remove the lift gate try adjusting the gate at piece #8. in Steve’s schematic
