I agree with Snoopy--NOBODY HAS EVER PROVED THE "LOOSE-FUSE THEORY" IS THE CAUSE OF THE REP MESSAGE. As a matter of fact, the person who was the instigator of the "loose-fuse theory" is the same guy who sold forum members $250 "cold-air" intakes that actually rob power and cheapo fart-can mufflers that'll rust out in a year. Hmmm.

Get your car to the dealer and have 'em fix the real problem. If they can't fix it, take it to another one.

But having an opinion that you would wait for a incident prior to attempting to prevent it, is what I was referring to, of course another thread about this a year from now (from you) will be a fresh discussion...
Yeah, YOU DO HAVE that problem, if I remember correctly.

Thankx for quite good advice, yes my friend,I checked all fuses and all my stress, migraine was gone...(but only for while)on night after my work on july/7th-8th,some fuses I'v found were not properly set in their sockets. And all of sudden my HHR was driving without dreaded message ,,check engine,,or even worse ,,eng power reduced,,and next day I was happily driving, doing some errands in town, later evening I was driving on freeway US202 going on for me important meeting and old familiar story again: all of sudden at 65 mph speed dreaded message ,,ENG PWR REDUCED,,and my HHR again in middle of freeway lane became limping THIRD WORLD RIKSHA in Western Clothing struggling at 25-mph with emergency lights on.I'm already tired from that potentialy very dangerous vehicle.

So it seems to happen most at higher speeds? There is a notable symptom you can tell the dealer. There is obvioulsy an issue so take it back and have it looked at ASAP rather than continuing to drive it as is.

I had the same problem, dude... Turned out to be a loose ground wire somewhere. The "Power Engine Reduced" thing is the most dangerous safety feature I've ever seen.

Just take it to the dealer, tell them the problem, and to check all ground wires. Hopefully your dealer isn't as much of an a**hole as mine was and try to give you a story that the battery's bad or something like that.

I had to take mine to the dealer 3 times for it to finally be fixed. But since the last trip to the dealer, I haven't encountered the problem again. So that had to have been the problem.

Good luck.

I found a bulitin that may help you with the dealer.

Subject: Various Driveability Concerns - No Start, Long Crank, Loss of Engine Power, Discharged Battery, Check Engine Light On, Engine Power Reduced Message Displayed, DTCs Set (Repair Engine Wire Harness) #06-06-04-045 - (09/12/2006)

Models: 2006 Chevrolet HHR

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Built Prior to the Following Dates, Based on Engine Option: Engine
Build Date

2.2L (VIN D -- RPO L61)
April 27, 2006

2.4L (VIN P -- RPO LE5)
February 20, 2006

Condition
Some customers may comment on various driveability or engine performance concerns. These conditions may occur intermittently and diagnosis may find several DTCs set.

Some of the conditions that may be present are:

• No Start

• Long Crank

• Loss of Engine Power

• Discharged Battery

• Check Engine Light On

• Reduced Engine Power Message Displayed on DIC

Cause

The condition may be caused by one of the wires in the main engine harness being chafed or cut on the evaporative emission canister purge solenoid valve mounting bracket (1).

Correction
Repair the affected wire. Inspect other wires in the bundle for chafing and repair if needed. Refer to Wire Repair in the Wiring Systems sub-section of SI. Cover the bracket edge adjacent to the wires with conduit, a split piece of vacuum hose, tape or other suitable material to prevent the wiring from chaffing through again.

The bulletin says it only affects 2006 HHRs, but mine is a 2007. There must not have been enough 2007s with the problem to require a bulletin/tsb I guess.
