My hhr overheated today
well to give everyone a update... yesterday my poor baby overheated again... temp reached 300*, that is what the gauge said. I did notice once it passed 300* the dic reads ----.. I'm assuming it maxes out at 300* ... anyways, its back at the dealer untill they try to give me another excuse, I mean reason why it overheated again.
It reminds me of the overheating problems I had with my 2001 Chevy Venture. Basically, it had intake gasket/head gasket problems that trapped air/oil in the cooling system. The mechanic told me the Dexcool coolant reacts very badly in presence of air/oil in the cooling system.
So, to make a long story short, due to the failed intake gasket/head gasket, air/oil got into the coolant, and coolant also got in the oil, so the whole engine and cooling system began to fill with greyish/white goo. The oil pan, when removed, had about 1 inch thick of grey goo too. So they had to replace the intake gasket, they had to replace 1 head gasket, they had to replace the radiator, the heater core, and, finally, they made a thorough flushing/cleaning of the water passage in the engine, and clean the inside of the engine too. The Venture never overheated again after this repair was done. The Venture was in the shop for 3 days...
