Some have a fusible link between the alternator and the starter.

That is one of those things where you need to find out why and fix or you will be sorry.

Yes, that burning quest, what caused it to burn out. Just replacing it is futile. Was it the alternator? A short?

mine was a broken fusable link. Replaced that and no problems since. Look for a snapped wire between starter and altinator.

The oring on the starter end was broken, and not the fuse of the fusible link burnt? That should be a straightforward change.
This would be a broken terminal ring

This would be a burnt fusible link

Can anyone tell me where I can get a new one of these? The local Chevy parts guys told me a previous owner must have added it. They have "no listing" for one and that it's not factory wiring. I told them it's wrapped to the factory harness with old dried out factory tape, who would do that? Anyway, the fusible link between the starter and alternator has rubbed through on an AC line and is basically nothing but corrosion, green from one end to the other. I'd like to replace it before it's completely gone but have had no luck finding one.

Most just get a universal fusible link and splice it in place of the original. GM does not list one because it’s part of the wiring harness

It doesn't have to be a fusible link. Just go get a short battery cable with the correct eyelets on the ends. The one from the starter to the alternator is not part of the harness, it bolts on each end. However, green corrosion indicates a short somewhere, like something with an under rated resistance (light bulb etc), or a marginal ground..

You could go to a local auto parts recycling yard, get a used one.
