No filter change or pan pulled. It was just a drain and fill service that they do. They said they did it through a plug?

I dropped it off at Aamco this morning. They test drove it and said they could feel it a little bit. He said it doesn't feel as much like SLIPPING, but more like the computer is getting confused on the downshifting. Other than that, they said the outside of the pan looks good, and everything in the engine compartment looks good. They're gonna try to look at it some more throughout the day and let me know.

 

I love that explanation, they drained it thru a plug. Really? They turned the engine off and removed the check full plug, that would drain a quart or so out, but wouldn’t drain the whole transmission. Maybe they vacuumed the fluid out from that full check plug, not very good in with case.
Hopefully it’s just a solenoid , for that , the transmission has to be dropped , here is a thread about that very project

So I got a little update. Turns out the transmission fluid was overfilled by 3 quarts. It's weird cause Valvoline said that only 1.5 quarts drained out, but they put 5 quarts in. Anyway, the guys at Aamco said they drove it again after correcting the fluid level, and they said all was well. No more slipping. They said to leave it with them overnight and they would drive it a couple more times in the morning to make sure everything is still good. They also let me know that the fluid was still really clean, no metal shavings or anything. I think it must of been overfilled already when I bought it, cause it did slip a little bit when I test drove it.

 

Looks like it's fixed, then, very good! Guess you won't be going back to Valvoline...

 

And a great lesson, don’t trust these shops that claim to drain the transmission but don’t replace the filter. If you’re having problems, take it to a known good transmission shop or google how to change the transmission filter and fluid, get the tools and equipment and do it yourself, it really isn’t rocket science or hard, just can be messy.

 

Funny thing. Just a couple of days ago I was talking with my neighbor who has a transmission shop. I ask him how often people bring in cars with overfilled trannys. He said he's sees it all the time.

 

Well, the said fixing the fluid level didn't fix the problem. They said I'm looking at a rebuild. The cost is gonna be around $3,000. Luckily they do financing.

a used transmission is about $350.00 to $500.00. I’d ask some questions and ask if they do the remove and replacement, how much for labour , if you supply the transmission
