Update on my P0016 code problem. Finally got the camshaft solenoids and put them in today. I cleared the codes and took it out for a spin. After several trips today neither the CEL or the codes have returned and the car seems to have its old pep back. 
Many thanks to WHOPPER and all who gave help and advise.
I think I will upgrade to premium membership to celebrate.
