Noise in LH front

I have a growling noise in the lh front of our 07 hhr. It started as a faint whine & has grown into a growling noise that increases as you accelerate. Could it be a wheel bearing? If I swerve back & forth it doesn't change the sound. Any help/advise is appreciated. Thanks, Kirk

Welcome to the site

most of the time that noise would be from a bad wheel bearing. You could jack the front wheel up and check for looseness. That would pin it down. But noisy wheel bearing are not always loose.

to the forum Kirk!

Barring any other info other than your description, I'll join in and say that the most likely culprit is a failing hub on the noisy side.

But before you shell out the dough, give us a bit more info like the mileage on your HHR, etc.

Welcome to the site.

X2 on the hub bearing guess.
Also. I'm one of those who believes in changing both sides of them while you're having to do the work. Both, as in LF and RF of the car.

It has 116,000 miles on it- changing both sides sound like a good idea. Is this a real pain to do? I have a shop & tools- just haven't messed with front wheel drive cars much. Do you guys buy your parts online or at a retail store? Again, thanks so much for your help! Kirk

Give this handy dandy "How To" a read by clicking the link below...

https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-...acement-38946/

On a 1-10 "Pain in the posterior" scale, you're looking at a 6, unless corrosion has "welded" the hubs on, then patience and penetrating fluid are required.

I have done six fronts and four rears, all were easy for me.

You can get them on eBay for as little as $40. As much as $260. Your choice Chinese, Mexican, American(maybe).
