Hello fellow HHR club members!

My first post here and I'm hopeful that someone will have some advise. I own a 2008 HHR and have had no issues with the car until just a few days ago. The car as 36K on it and just a few days ago, I started hearing a really loud noise when pressing on the brake pedal.

It's not a disk brake squeak sort of noise and it's only present when I press on the brake pedal. It sounds more like a suspension rubber bushing type of squeak and it's really noticable.

Any ideas out there of what to check or where to look?

shouldn't make a suspension type of sound, i'm thinking maybe a cracked or broken pad

 

I'd be looking at brake pads. At 36K miles the pads may be shot depending how hard the brakes have been used.

 

Does it happen when pressing on the brake, whether HHR is moving or not? If so, may be a master cylinder issue. My 08 Malibu had the sound of a dry bushing creak when depressed, and the dealer said it was internal to the master cylinder. No TSB at the time, but they did take care of it under warranty.
