O2 Sensor
O2 Sensor
I was just told by my mechanic that my front facing o2 sensor needs to be replaced. He said it's very easy to replace and I could probably do it myself and save the $$$ ($approx $320). He said the GM part runs about $240 and AutoZone will run $70. I'm feeling adventurous and think I'll give it a try - can someone post pics of the front and rear facing o2 sensors? It would be much appreciated. (my guess is it's in back and in front of the catalytic converter). I'm taking a look tonight to see if I can easily spot them
While I'm under the car, should I replace both o2 sensors or only the front fouled o2 sensor?
thanks in advance

Banged knuckles would be the only problem. Borrow the correct tool from Autozone. If you want to pay the money go ahead replace both. I am assuming that the "check engine" lite is lit? Then you may need to clear codes.
Just look down between the engine and firewall; you will see the exhaust down pipe and a thingy with wires coming out of it, that's the front one. The rear you need to slide underneath to see. You will need to lay under the car to do either one, maybe easier to remove the down pipe, if you got the tools and knowhow and gaskets.

If one goes the rest is sure to follow. Rule of thumb for most vehicles is about 60,000 miles or when the code pops up, whichever is first...
I replaced 1 of the 4 O2s in my parents toyota because my step father is alittle cheap and it was the one that showed in the Pcode. Sensor only cost me $65-was actually reboxed toyota. I pleaded to replace the other 3 but he wouldn't budge and I didn't have the cash to lay out. 2 weeks later was his inspection, check engine light came on while he drove into the bays (at Toyota not less-never get an inspection at a dealer even if you get a free oil change and car wash). Cost him an additional $625!!! for the other 3 + install. He was afraid to call me because I would have ripped the keys out of the dealers hands before any work was done. Would not have mattered if they failed the car because even paying for an inspection again and me buying the new sensors and installing would have been mucho cheapo compared to the stealer.
