MAF Sensor

You'll lose power as the vehicle enters "limp home" mode and the ignition timing will be pulled all the way to the low octane profile.
Once the engine warms enough to enter the open loop mode, you will be running an excessively rich air to fuel ratio, which will lead to plug fouling, misfires, and the possibility of ruining the catalytic converters.
Temporarily disconnecting the MAF is a diagnostic tool/trick, but don't run with it disconnected, you'll have a very unhappy HHR on your hands.

X6, when you reconnect it, disconnect the battery for 30 minutes to reboot the computer, or it will take a few days for it to relearn itself, I learned the hard way with the dealer forgetting to reconnect the connection and I was in a hurry to get home when I first bought the HHR

Thank you Friends, Romans, Countryman and HHR Owners
I learned that with the MAF sensor disconnected my gas mileage plummeted.
The DIC gave the same mileage readings but mileage was poor and at $4+ a gallon it is a dumb thing to do (in my opinion).
