I have made some great progress. Did a transmission gasket, filter and fluid change. However, the Rock Auto ATP B171 filter kit came with either a faulty filter neck or filter seal since the filter would not seat properly; would push in and it would fall out. Tried pushing and twisting to get it seated but it tore up the filter seal. And yes, I did take out the old filter seal and install the new one. Had to run to AutoZone and get their Duralast filter kit which worked perfectly. It also has the metal/rubber gasket so it seemed like a good kit. Also replaced the downstream O2 sensor, the cracked PCV vent hose and a faulty turn signal switch. :)

ABS Issue - hooked up a Innova 5610 scanner and I can read all 4 wheel speed sensors (speed displays while driving so they seem good), plus a lot of other ABS live data so it looks like the ABS module is at least turning on and performing some functions. If I try to clear the C0550 code, it doesn't even turn off the ABS lights and basically stays on. I've verified all ABS fuses, cleaned and sanded ground G111 (ABS module ground), secured the fuse box a bit tighter, reset all codes, disconnected battery for a while, but still the Christmas tree lights (ABS, Traction, and Brake) all stay on continuously. I wonder if it could be anything to do with the steering angle sensor(reads as steering wheel position on live data) which reads about -174 degrees with the wheel close to straight? I only ask because I saw that fixed someones ABS issues on an HHR facebook post. Wonder if I get it aligned and then reset the steering angle sensor using the 5610 scan tool if it would "maybe" fix it? Grasping at straws here.

I don't know... It's looking more and more like I have a bad ABS module. Does anyone still repair these ABS modules or is it something I could attempt? Really don't want to buy a new module and then have to pay to have it programmed unless it's the only way.

I'm down to just 3-4 things that I want to fix before I hand it over to my in-laws. :)

See post #10 in the link I posted for you.

You can try the alignment method. Some shops know what they’re doing others , not so much. The steering wheel angle sensor sets its own code not C0050 or C0040
with your front wheels straight she’d , is the steering wheel straight? Or off centre? Have you replaced tie rod ends ? Maybe the intermediate steering shaft and turned tge steer wheel?

Thanks, Oldblue! I could have sworn I clicked that link in the post you shared previously and it didn't work, but this time I was able to open it. It shows out of stock so I guess I will need to contact them to get confirmation. I see a couple of others like xemodex, upfix, and moduleexperts, so I will reach out to them for a quote. Thanks again.

Thanks, Oldblue. Man, $380 seems expensive to repair the ABS module. I'm going to call my local Chevy dealers and get prices/details on flashing a new or used one to compare. I've also read that some used ABS module are not able to be programmed even by Chevy techs (locked?) but not sure.

Does anyone have clear directions on how to get the ABS wiring connector off of the ABS module? Should I unscrew the 4 bolts holding the ABS module first and then try and get the connector off? I was able to lift the connector cover piece up, but I'm not sure how to pull the wire harness out now which I need to do in order to pull off the ABS module for testing/repair. Took it for another test drive tonight and all wheel speed sensors were reading fine in the ABS live data view and haven't had any wheel sensor codes for over a week now, but C0550 stays on constantly and never goes away, even when I clear the codes with the ignition in ON position and car not running.

Are warning lights on, or just on the code reader?

thanks for your reply donbrew! The abs, traction control and red brake light all are on and haven’t gone off since I got the car a few weeks ago, even after multiple clearing of the code. Never had a check engine light.

L have a stupid question: Have you checked the parking brake and switch? Some people think adjusting the parking brake adjusts the rear brakes, that could lead to a false signal.
I once took my wife's car for inspection and when I left it wouldn't move, the mechanic came out and released the p-brake for me.
