Over the counter scanners?

Are any of the sub $100 scanners that claim to read and reset DTCs etc worth buying?
I realize I won't be able to program, but if I could just rest the DTCs it would be worth it!

TIA

TIM

All of them, including the $12 chinese bluetooth/smartphone (ELM 327) ones will do what you ask.

The more important thing to consider is why the codes have been set, and what has been done to correct the causes.

Yes, but you have to know what codes have been set. They don't tell you the problem, they will often tell you the effect which better than being blind.

Thx

In your original post you used the word "rest" - did you mean read or reset? I took it you meant "reset".

With the correct software the ELM327 units will do everything including the definitions, but then you will still have to go to your shop manual to find the real meaning of the code.

I have Torque (free) and Scanmaster (free/lite) on my Android phone and Scanmaster ELM on my laptop.

The main problem is that GM does not make all of the functions available.

I ordered an ELM327 Thursday night. I paid for expedited shipping and it hasn't shipped yet. I'm hoping to use it with my IPad via WIFI and Engine link or other software. Reading up I see there are specific DTCS codes for the EPS motor, sensors etc. so hopefully this will point me in the right direction.
