Hello! In the following post, I noted that I recently changed the timing chain and the CEL went out.

Now after a week of driving the CEL came on again. O'Reilly's checked the codes and retrieved: P0011, P0014, P0016, and P0017. Whoa! I asked if any of them were historical from since previously P0016 was what prompted the timing chain replacement weeks before. He said that they showed historical, but also current. Hmm, not sure what that means. Anyways, I'm not sure why I'd now have all of these codes triggered. The car seems to run fine. The timing chain replacement went fine as well. Any ideas?

Did you release the tensioner before you buttoned it up?

Yup! Sure did! I took careful note of the chain and its slack before and after releasing the tensioner. It snugged up like it was supposed to after releasing the tensioner. And like I said, it has run fine and no CEL for about a week or two.


I'm baffled.

Hmmmm.... I'm wondering if the VVT valves may have some debris or shavings from the damaged parts you replaced.

Because I am lazy I would change the oil, perform a lobotomy and re-check for codes before disassembling the chain case again.

Seems the timing chain skipped a tooth, but try the oil change , can't hurt, except if the chain jumps another tooth or two!

Historic codes can stay in memory for like 60 cold starts.

Here are the possible causes; is it possible the harmonic balancer has gotten loose?

Update: I disconnected the battery to clear the code(s). It drove about 4 days with no CEL and then it popped on again. I then went to Advance Auto and had them check the DTC. They are now telling me the only "current" code is P0010. I'm pretty sure this is related to the intake VVT solenoid. So that's where I'm going to be looking, when I get time to check it out soon. I'll keep you posted.

P0010 is the CIRCUIT; implication is a loose connection.
