P0171 traction control hard shifts.

Help. Traction control light comes on, Shifts hard sometimes only when light is lit, but still very drivable. Display says service traction. Have a decent scanner and so far it keeps only throwing code P0171. Sometimes engine light will come on, sometimes not. My tool says " BANK TO LEAN" with code. She starts right up, no delay crank, idles smooth, no other drivability issue's she runs like good girl except for shifts when light on. Reset Ing key puts T/C light out and the next 10 miles of city driving will be as smooth as butter.
Ideas? Input? Links? Pictures? Anything helps is appreciated.

FYI I found every fuse and relay under hood loose, now part of routine inspections I will thumb them all. Didn't help though, but not good.

Yeah. Been discussed many times in numerous posts. Try a search and read all the applicable info you can find.

By the way. What ever happened with your #4 cylinder misfire? You never bothered to update us on that one.

amcford - once again THANKS for posting the info. Nice job.

Back to the P0171 code - FMHHR, look for the code using the search tool at the top - there are numerous posting about it, however it will boil down to eliminating several of the causes. One post that might be very helpful to read is: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/problems-service-repairs-42/p0171-48761/

Thank for all your help. I decided to poke around today with my Pzero171 code traction light and check engine light. On advice found here I decided to check and clean MAF first. Did not take long to find issue.
What I found was a broken rear airbox bracket. A torn out front airbox grommet.
Therefore over stressing air intake elbow, causeing it to loosen from airbox and create a major intake leak while driving, yet at idle it would come together enough for a smooth Idle.
I also discovered that when code P0171 pops the first time only traction shuts down, the second time P0171 pops it kicks check engine light. Interesting.
I have read here today the rear AIR BOX BRACKET is problematic. They break often!
I have read here they might be discontinued???
I will research futher, might just repair and reinforce mine and get new grommets.
Right now have a backyard bandaid, and all is good. Will do it right ASAP.

GM PART# 15784193 REAR AIRBOX BRACKET
GM PART# 12563914 AIRBOX MOUNTNG GROMMETS

THANKS!!!

Ahhh good deal - glad you tracked down the problem. Yeah, a few people have had those brackets break. Luckily they aren't that big a project to fabricate one from scratch or do a backyard repair.

Those grommets are also a bit troublesome - giving them a good coating of silicone grease on reassembly helps make them easier to remove in the future.

Thanks for the part numbers - I'll plug them into our list of part numbers we have been recording.
