I looked into this a little more. And I'm going to agree with m_ridzon on this product as not being user friendly with certain types of plastics.
Found articles about it and they all lean towards using to much and you'll have problems.
I agree we need to confirm and verify and then advise accordingly .
I recall leaving a Q-Jet in the carb tank a little to long, it was ruined.
I know what you mean. Years ago, I would use the old dirty carb cleaner (the stuff in the 5 gal pails) as a paint remover. Put many valve covers in those pails and they would come out clean and stripped in about an hour. Just had to be sure to remove any rubber grommets before doing this.
To confirm, this is the stuff you’re speaking of? Being from Canada, I haven’t seen it up here.
Have you contacted the manufacturer? If it melts plastic , what’s it do to skin and flesh?
Yes that is it @Oldblue. Yes, it is nasty on the skin. I remember having to lotion my hands for days after the blasting job, to heal them (I should have worn gloves, but didn't think the chemical was that bad). No, I haven't contacted the manufacturer. I figured they would just laugh at me, because I used it in a manner that it's not intended for (i.e., must use it for carbs/throttle bodies, but not direct injection to cylinder head intake ports).
But it says injector cleaner! How did you use it wrong? Maybe to much but what do the directions instructions or cautions say?
Does it say don’t spray it on rubber, neoprene, wiring or plastics? Does the cam directions state to wear gloves?
But that also says "Fuel Treatment" - ie: add it to fuel - using it beyond what it is intended for is taking chances on the outcome.
Is this what was actually used? (Carb choke and Throttle body cleaner)
I strolled to the shop last night to double check. Your picture is the exact image of the stuff I used. The How-To said "Berryman's B12," so that's what I grabbed at AutoZone.
Yes, I agree that any use of carb cleaner in the blasting job has uncertain outcomes. In the aftermath of my learned experience, I now have strong hesitations about using any liquid chemical for a walnut blast, since it has the potential to leak down to the crankcase.
