this come and go CEL is driving me nuts. 2006 HHR runs great. comes up to temp normally. every single obvious function of the car id fine...very well maintained with 85,000 miles. problem is that each time the light comes on, by the time that i get to advance auto, autozone, it's gone. gas cap is tight.........guess i just gotta wait til it happens near one of the auto parts stores. daytime ambient temps a have been in the 50's and 60's when this happens.......

 

If the light came on and went out there should still be a code in the memory.

The scan tool used by most part stores will only read emission codes. You may have a code in another system they can't read.

 

Beg, borrow or ........... a code reader you can leave plugged in while driving if there isn't a code stored. Be aware that using a code reader while driving is probably illegal - similar to the bimbo texting beside us today. :)
