Ice on the old ICM yes, but the new one also? Leads toward electrical connection problems causing resistance heat.

Whopper, that's "2006" not "2.2" re:the single coil.

 

Donbrew - mine is a 2006 as well, so I think of them by engine size automatically. :)

LOL - did that make any sense at all? What I meant was mine is a 2.4L 2006, and I automatically thought he had a 2.4 with the 4 coils like mine. Maybe I need a nap?

 

still trying to figure it out!! might be looking at under hood fuse box next, got me stumped.

 

Just throwing this out there can be a crank position sensor going bad due to heat related problem? I am not sure if the hhr has one, but can be possible .. Hope you find out and let us know

new crank sensor installed , same old b-s thanks anyway. does anyone have some gas and a match?

still no luck, but the more i look innto things the more corroded ground i find, 4 so far will look again in the am .

 

have found 7 corroded grounds so far, this is b-s. i think gm should stand for get mad !!!

 

Where are they located at? Can you post pics of them? I see you are located in the North, so do you think the corrosion might be related to salt-laden spray from driving on winter roads? Here in Texas, I've never had much of a problem with corrosion, but more from wire insulation breaking down in the heat (especially on older European vehicles). Keep us informed, and good hunting!
