power steering fails

intermitantly, the DIC on the dash of my 2006 HHR LT displays "power steering" and at the same time, i loose my power steering. happens with i'm driving along at a slow rate of speed...the car has about 116.000 miles on it and runs great except for this problem that's just starting. it is truly intermittant in nature. nothing seems to instigate it. i replaced both fuses associated with the p/s.. a 5 amp in the interior and one 60 amp under the hood. i suspected a voltage fluctuation to the electric p/ s motor(known as a Power Steering Asist Module on the rock auto site)...none. 12.5 in the battery... 13.8-13.9 going back into the battery with all the accessories running. so, now is suspect the p/s electric motor...any ideas anyone....???

Why would you not suspect the well known EPS motor failure for which GM issued an extended warranty for the life of the car ?

Go to your Chevrolet GM dealership, extended warranty service letter for electric power steering motor, if they don't know about it or won't fix it , go to the next closest GM dealership .

Print off this letter

https://consumermediallc.files.wordp...4v153-7510.pdf

And this

Mine is a 2007 LS, they have replaced the EPS motor twice!

Looks like most of 2009 and all 2010 is indeed a recall. 2006 through 2008 and the early 2009 get the extended warranty. It may be effectively the same result. In the letter, on page 3, right above Carmen's signature, is the language for the 2006- early 2009. In case your dealer has selective reading impairment.

Everything seems to come in bunches...

update....

stopped by at Jud Kuhn Chevy this afternoon.......explained the issue...pulled the VIN....sure nuff....under the "extended warrenty(2006/115,000 miles). Monday morning at 8:30 getting fixed. sez that based upon the DIC showing "power steering" and the chime coming ..along with the total loss of P/S, that the steering motor/module is to blame....they have it in stock and said that the fix takes no time.....i can sit and wait eating donuts, drinking coffee and reading the paper.....

I had mine replaced the same way, took all of 15 minutes. Really just 15 minutes, not enough time to drink of hot tea.
