Power steering and other problems

Hi, I am brand new to the HHR Forum. I currently own a 2006 Chevy HHR LT. Love my HHR but, I am having the worst luck with this car. I am a victim of the dreaded and infamous POWER STEERING problems with these cars. I had the motor replaced in April of this year (2013)..only to have it go out again in July'13... come to find out the part only had a 30 day warranty on it. The first replacement was with a used motor at the tune of 875.00 including labor. It was all I could afford..now, it's out a second time..any advice as to how to have this issue repaired for good? Does the part over heat? Could it be a fuse? I so sick of driving this beautiful car with out power steering..Also, the inside driver door latch broke..ACK!!

I also seem to have problems with the ignition key sticking and it seems to be related to the power door locks associated with shifting the car from drive to park..

Any advice as to how to rectify these problems..especially the powersteering issue would be most welcome..

Thanks

$875 is outrageous! The part cost retail new around $100 labor is less than an hour, if you mean the electronic power steering motor. There is a how-to here for replacing the EPS motor with photos.

Use the search box at the top of the page for answers to your problems.

I've moved your post to a new thread so it will be more visible.

$875??? Lady, you got seriously ripped off!! What was the name and location of the shop that did the repair? Did they do any other work, other than replacing the steering motor?

X3 on being ripped off, that's utterly disgusting, contact your local BBB at the very least.

Check with your dealer on the steering motor and sticking ignition key, they won't get anwhere near $875 to fix both issues combined.

To fix the broken interior door handle, get a Dorman repair kit, the PN for the left side is 80369, the right side takes 80370. They'll be available at your local auto parts store, the instructions are very comprehensive and it's an easy repair.

P.S. to the forum!
