Power Steering/Traction Control/multiple Warning Lights-Video Included
Power Steering/Traction Control/multiple Warning Lights-Video Included
2006 HHR LT with 140,000 miles. A few months ago while driving this started, multiple warning lights, panel says power steering, speedometer bounces, traction control light on, if driving rear end jerks as traction control is kicking in and out, hard shift. Sometimes takes restarting car once, sometimes restarting it 20 times to get it to stop and go back to normal. May drive normal for days and not happen or may happen multiple times per day. Hear a loud clicking near passenger side floor if vehicle is in drive. Multiple mechanics scratch their heads when I show them this video I took. I uploaded it to YouTube hoping someone here will know the issue. I have seen other videos on YouTube posted like mine, however no solutions found. Hoping you all have seen this and can tell me what the problem is as I’m on a tight budget. Many thanks! Here is video link.
Update: found in the comment section of a video like mine on YouTube that someone says the clicking noise is caused by the brake shift interlock system. Anyone know about this? The individual that posted that video commented that the Body Control Module connectors and terminals needed replacing on his car and that resolved the problem.. Another person commented that the BCM needs replaced as is a common issue with these cars. Can anyone tell me where the BCM is located?

You could start by checking the battery cable connections, at the battery and at the underhood fuse block. Also get your battery load tested, most auto parts stores will do this at no charge.
What else can you tell us about recent history of the car? Has it been jump started? Any repairs or damage done?

Battery is less than 6 months old. Have checked connections and fuses and relays to make sure nothing loose. Last major issue was more than a year ago when air conditioning compressor was replaced. The clicking is definitely not door locks, it comes from engine compartment and only when in drive, no clicking if parked. The traction control is certainly part of the issue as when this happens the rear wheels engage for a few seconds, causing the car to jerk in rear end and shift hard. This morning it did it three separate times in 10 minutes and after multiple restarts stops. Then drove 160 miles no issue. Sometimes check engine light comes on and stays on, sometimes not. When it does come on, it goes off on its own within a day.
Did you see this youtube? Not necessarily THE fix, but if you get to the bottom of the fuse box and unplug/dielectric grease/inspect/replug you will have done what the official SB suggests.
The othe major thing to check is the large red wire connecting to the underhood fuse box.
