Quick thought

Not sure where this would go so feel free to move it to where it needs to be.

Ok so my car is scheduled to go in for repairs, from some one backing into me. My thoughts right now are possiblely taking the check and finding a door at say a junk yard in good shape and the right color, and use the rest of the money for other stuff, right now bills but maybe running boards. Total damages are right around $1600 ish, what do you think I could pick up a used door for?

I did a search on car-parts.com and found a door for $515.00 at greenleaf in Las-Vegas. Don't know how far away from you that is.

about a 6 and half hour drive, but worth it to save some money plus I got a friend down there that would help me out with it to. I'll have to check that site out.

I wouldn't if I were you, unless you are absolutly sure there is no other damage. If you take the check and buy the door and something is wrong that it won't go on you will be on the hook for the repairs.

Nothing else wrong with the door just a big dent so im not worried about other problems. heres the post with the damage shown https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/war-stories-8/jettas-hurt-23798/ Ive changed doors on some older models and really the setup looks about the same, so should be pretty straight forward.

Yeah, looks like a door swap is all you need. Gaps all look good so I doubt there is any other damage. Yeah, tell them you're not sure where you are gonna take it for repair.

Agree, find a salvage door. How do you think the shop would have went about fixing it anyways? Pull the dents, bondo and paint? Not downing any body shops, just curious if that would be the more than likely route one would take.

Well their inital plan was to remove the door skin and reskin it. In my opion thats the more expensive way of doing it since theres more labor involved, but then again im not a body shop, but I can replace a door and save a ton. Just waiting to hear from them now should now with in the hour.
