Rear hatch supports

Well the rear hatch support rods failed. The rear hatch won't stay up anymore on it's own.

Where can I find inexpensive replacements and are the hard to replace?

I'm a DIY'er, so I don't mind getting my hands dirty.

Thanks.

Most of the auto parts stores have them. Auto zone, Advance ect. easy to do most have a clip to hold support rod to a ball. just remove clips and install new support thats it. Even if just one is bad hatch won't stay up. Buy two.

As Reed said, they should be fairly easy to replace. I had to replace them on my 87 Jeep Cherokee, had them replaced in 10 min. Keep in mind, I didn't really have any idea of what I was doing.

Just make sure you have a 2x4 or a cheering squad to hold the hatch open.

I second replacing them like shoes in pairs. The second one will go in the near future so do it now.

I would also suggest you replace both since if there is a miss match it can cause you to warp the door as it closes. Might not be a big deal if you always use the center of the door to close it but the grab handle/cup is off to one side so..................

Thanks guys. When I do replace them, I'll get both at the same time. I do that when I replace headlights / turn signal lamps too.

After making some calls, here's what I found:

Local dealer: $33.42 each
Advance Auto: $29.98 each
Auto Zone: $26.99 each
GM Parts Direct.com: $19.81 each

Even with the shipping and tax, GM Parts Direct is the winner here with a grand total of $55.24

Good to know since I've got two 06's to keep up. What were the part numbers?
