We just think, drilling holes into a part that has sensors on either end isn’t a good idea. I appreciate your farming to feed us, very much .
My first job was cutting cattle out of the herd for a butcher’s farm, long days on the horse.

Well I live in a state without inspection so if I cut the cats out and replace them with pipe would it affect my sensors?

Removing the Converter

"In short: DON'T. If your car came with a catalytic converter you're looking at fines of up to $10,000 for removing it. Sort of. Removing the catalytic converter is illegal, but getting caught without one isn't. Most states will simply suspend your smog certification until you get a new one installed."

(this is just one article I found out of thousands that state similar warnings)

See now that’s FMG just posting an article he found for you, copy and paste.
Yes the sensors would detect there’s no cat and turn on the CEL . So, not good to remove the catalytic converter.

Ok thanks. Once I get everything straightened out I'll patch the holes. Till I get paid 2 weeks from now I'm going to keep the car parked for fear of it providing too much volts and causing more or worse problems

Worse part is I'm now down to one vehicle now cause I have to get someone to look at my motorcycle too.. my luck isn't the greatest right now..

Well, maybe, maybe not as far as "too much volts". The HHR has a generator (what it's called in the service books). I seem to recall that the regulator for the generator/alternator is controlled by the ECM . Also, I have read in the service manual that the charging system under extreme load demand can put out as much as 19 volts.
Point being. If you checked your charging system with a code reader, you may have gotten false info that it's overcharging. I would suggest taking the car to someone who can test it with a good charging system tester.

Alternator tested good, going to double check all grounds and wiring this weekend. Not sure what to do from there other than break down and replace ecm, I've done everything else I can think of.
