Remote FOB

We only got one remote with our 2006 HHR that we bought used. It has been acting up for a while and its not the usual worn keypad or broken solder joint at the battery (that I fixed with our other HHR).

I am buying a set of remotes (4-button) from ebay and I found a local dealer willing to program both remotes for $25.

My question is: Should I just buy the cheapest remotes I can find? I have found an ebay seller that has 2 remotes (with starter button) for $17 and free shipping. Others are selling remotes for up to twice that price.

Has anyone had a problem having any of these programmed? One local automotive locksmith I called said they have had remotes from ebay that would not program properly.

Thanks
Steve

Bought my two fobs off Ebay, had local Chevy dealer program them, been about 7 months now, they're still working perfectly, even with the remote start.

have had this happen a bunch of times, most of the time the replacements were as bad as oem. got these and when I opened them they seem to be made much better.

Here's the update:

I bought a pair of 4-button (remote starter) keyless entry remotes on ebay for $15.77 with free shipping.

I called local dealers and most wanted $50 to reprogram. I didn't even ask if that was for 1 or 2. The best deal was at the dealer I bought my other HHR at, Paddock Chevrolet in Kenmore, NY. On the phone, the service guy said it would cost $25. I said, "well I have 2 of them", to which he replied that he would do both for $25.

When I arrived for the appointment I hoped that he would remember saying he would do both for $25. He asked me if I bought the HHR from them. I said I didn't but I did buy my other HHR from them. At that point he said they would program the 2 remotes for free as a customer service.

So for a total of $15.77 I now have a pair of working remotes.
