Replacing Lower Control Arms is EASY

When I was under the right front side of the 2007 LT I noticed a shaking of the rear of the control arm so I ordered both sides from Rock Auto dot com and they arrived yesterday. This morning I did the replacement and it took longer to jack up/let down the car and put the tools away than the actual replacement! I used my impact wrench and it made quick work of the bolts and the new arm fit in just perfect. I tightened the bolts with the impact wrench so nothing should come loose. The list of tools in a post I found here was spot on which saved some time. Both sides had the rear rubber completely broken out!

Uh Oh. Well that's wrong and I wouldn't advise anyone else to do it that way.

My Ingersoll Rand impact wrench goes to 200 FT LBS and has settings for 50, 100, 150 and 200. I checked these several years ago when I had my vintage race car and they were within 3#. I used the 50# for the pinch bolt and front mounts and the 100# for the rear then set it to 200# for the extra 180 turn. It just about made it 180 degrees so I figured that was close enough. It only took 75# or so to loosen the rear bolt and the pinch bolt needed nearly 150#? The arms looked original but they may have been replaced by the original owner?

Since I am well over 72 and have pretty bad arthritis in my arms and such the impact wrench has been a life saver for me. The wrench was one used at Indy by AJ Foyt and given to me in 1973 when my mom helped start his racing electronics company Phoenix Printed Circuits which made some of the first Indy car electronics. I never got to actually use it until I got my house with my big air compressor in 1981 so it sat for a while!

It may well have worked for you, using your torque wrench as described, however the forum can only recommend the specs as given by GM. Anyone doing otherwise is on their own.

For that reason, this thread is closed.
