Replacing rear brake shoes
Have you looked at youtube? Like this one:
2010 has standard American hardware. The key is to take pictures of the assembled parts before you take it apart.
2006-2008 have European type Universal spring hold down.

Take a good picture of the location and the way the springs sit on each side. I think I went back to the youtube video a dozen times to get mine back together, and I have worked on tons of drum brake systems. The HHR setup is quite different. I had to redo it 3-5 times to get it right. I didn't pay close attention when it came apart. Also, go ahead and order a replacement hardware set. Why do it twice when you have a weak spring or an adjuster that fails. (2006 LT)

Replacing rear brake shoes
Hello all. I have a 2010 hhr ls and I'm trying to replace the rear brake shoes. Can anyone give me suggestions on how to reconnect the spring at the top that goes between the two shoes. I'm having a hard time connecting that spring. I was out almost until dark and still didn't get it connected. Allsugestions are welcome. Right now my car is on a jack stand. I didn't put it back together.
check the youtube video above and at 7:15 it shows where the front end goes, and at 9:15 it shows the rear. I had trouble with that one too. Mine was a 2006 so it had different hold down spring (1 instead of 2)
