rocker panels damage - design issue
Yeah, have had it under raps for a while, although some of the Arizona members knew. However I should say, even though it is new, it's an 08' that I bought on my birthday, at the beginning of the year.
Only have about 1000 miles on it. Haven't had a chance to do any trips, etc, with it. But city mileage is better than what some people claim for their HHR. AND, it is wickedly fast....can get you into trouble quickly.
And I have "ticket" time slips that, for me, are unbelieveable.
Sorry, I'm just not a car picture guy....even for my HHR. But just maybe I can talk my SIL, who is a professional, into something

So whats the concensus if you only use front and rear spalsh guards?
I have a little difficulty stepping over running boards every time I get in or out.
This is a decison you gotta get right on a new vehicle order.

Hmmmm....nobody seems to have answered the entire question. Boards can be purchased here: http://chevroletpartspeople.com/cart...2%3A04%3A48+PM
They also have molded splash guards: http://chevroletpartspeople.com/Sear...+Splash+Guards
I have bought from these folks. It's actually a pool of dealers parts departments with good prices.
If it's any consolation, I had this issue addressed at my dealer per the TSB. They did the paint repair. I bought flaps and they installed them. And because Chevy absolutely REFUSED to step up, the dealer gave me a great deal on the boards. Do I think Chevy could have done a better job addressing this? Absolutely! but they didn't, and life does go on. I have my HHR, I like it, and it's looking better with boards and flaps. No more road damage that from sand and salt on the roads.

I could not afford the running boards, but the splash guards have eliminated the debris

Do you feel safe with the idea of ordering a new 2009 HHR without running boards and installing these splash guards? It's really all about the front wheel debris and rocks isn't it?
To me running boards look nice but create other problems. I have mixed emotions about only splash guards even though that would be my preference.
Also there are several other types of splash guards available.
The proof is in the "PUDDIN"

I still find it odd that running boards are standard equipment in Canada, and still optional in the US.
