Rubbing Sound When Turning

Hello All,

I am having an issue in that I hear a rubbing sound when turning usually left but occasionally right. Sometimes it sounds like a mild grinding type sound. My Panel sounds fine when driving straight ahead and at highway speeds.

A visual inspection in the wheel well areas show nothing obvious.

Suggestions are welcome.

Thanks/BunglerHHr

some more clues would be nice, but I will guess a hub is going.

Hub or CV or brakes worn out. Pretty much covers it.

Assuming you're running a stock size tire, or something slightly larger but properly sized, then I'll agree with Don....Hub, Outer CV Joint, or Brakes at the end of their service life.

My Ride is 2010 Panel LS with 22,000 miles

The sound I'm referring to usually occurs at slower speeds and only when turning.

OK, one thing else that might be going on, but its a weird one.

My 2011 had a slow speed rubbing sound, mostly at walking speeds, checked out all the front end components with no failures found.

The real issue was a warped rear brake drum that was "catching" then releasing the brake shoes once every revolution. Once the drum was changed out, silence returned.

Have you tried jacking up each corner and rotating the wheels by hand? If you haven't, be sure to rotate each front wheel at full lock, turned both inwards and outwards.

No I haven't jacked up the Panel yet but I will. I had looked on this post:

Howling/Grinding/Clunk/Crunch/Squeak/Squeal Noise thread

From what was described it seems like the #2 fits the situation.

Strut bearing- Will grind, or vibrate with the steering wheel turning. Louder when stopped

I don't know anything about Strut bearings but will surely look into it.

It's hard to imagine that with only 22K on Panel Breaks or Wheel Bearings are an issue but we will see.

Thanks

In case you didn't already find it, the strut bearing is right at the top, can almost be seen under the hood, behind the windshield washer fluid reservoir on the passenger side, and behind the fuse box on the driver side

Well that surely clarifies this. Is the Bearing itself replaceable? Would this be covered by the 100K Warranty?

I don't think you can do just the bearing, but I know its not under 100,000 mile warranty..
