Hopefully my husband and I will be home tomorrow at a reasonable hour so he can re check the codes to make sure we are going the right direction that matches what the mechanic said. Thank you for all of your suggestions. We will try them all out. Thank you.
Well, I’m back….sorry for my tardiness…you know how life just jumbles up one’s plans! My husband ran that car code reader and took some screen shots that I’m attaching…I hope! I really hope you guys can help by explaining what the code means that came up, what looping is, and there are a couple of other questions. Also, We did not get a code that talks about the power steering control module.
Open loop means the O2 sensors have not warmed up enough to provide information to the ECM. I am confused; it says it didn't find any DTCs then cites P0030?
I would go to the local auto parts store and ask them to read the codes with their reader, don't bother with what they tell you except for the number e.g. P0030.
P0030 means that the circoit for the O2 heaters is broke/shorted or one of them has a burned out heating element.
If they "cannot connect" check the cigarette lighter fuse #29 underhood.
Was the engine running when You plugged in?
I got the P0030 code right off the bat (using fixd reader and app), turned the car off, removed reader, turned car back on, plugged in reader and got the same code. I used the “clear engine light”, it worked. Repeated turning off car, removed reader, and the started him up and used the reader.
that’s when I got the no DTS message. Weird. I did a rescan, and then got the P0030 code.
The dash shows the message “Power Steering ESC”, but the reader doesn’t get a code that has anything to do with that.
I have a hard time believing the Power Steering “computer” is the issue, I think it’s either electrical, the power steering motor, or the toque sensor. I looked everywhere online, and didn’t find anyone that’s had to replace the PS “computer”, other than when they have had to replace the entire steering mechanisms.
I plan to take the PS motor out today, and use my multimeter on it, see if that’s bad. Oh and I’ll also check the fuse you mentioned (although I think you were talking about how that would relate to the reader). Thanks all for your continued help. Really don’t want to let this car go, he’ (yeah I know.. lol) is awesome to drive, and has a log of go, if you know what I mean.
oh, and what my wife forgot to mention, even with that message on the dash, power steering was working! No weirdness in turning the wheel in either direction. We took it to the garage, they said it was the PS computer that needed to be replaced, but it was discontinued. We decided to just drive him home, started it up, started driving and NO power steering at all! What the heck!, yup, it was working and whatever they did they killed the power steering completely. I know they took the covers off where the PS motor etc is connected, because they left a couple screws out, so they didn’t just use a reader, they got to the steering parts. Does this help figure this out?
