Searched but Did not Find...

i ran several searches on these forums, and couldn't find it anywhere in the owners manual either, but when should I do my first oil change on the SS? i'm over 400 miles now and i know generally new cars have a short interval for the first change due to initial breaking in of the engine. about how many miles in should i do it?

Opinions will vary a lot on this topic. But, the manual does not state a "break in" period for one reason, it's not required.

Modern motors don't need it.

Just my 2 cents. I did my first oil change at 5000 kms. The DIC had 78% on the oil life. The second change was at about 13,700 and I changed to synthetic. Even though they say there is no break in needed, I feel all that all those new parts rubbing up against each other for the first time is going to put some metal in the oil. I never heard of an engine failing because of too many oil changes.

When was the last time you heard of any oil related engine failure? My guess, a very long time.

Modern technology bores and cuts with very precist tolerances. Not like the old days of mechanical honing. Engines used to come with a break in oil for that reason. No longer needed. We buy thousands of new vehicles for our customers each year. They are all placed on a 1 year or 7500 mile (which every comes first) schedule for the first oil change and all afterwards. I can't remember the last time we had an engine failure.

Tranny's on the other hand, slushboxes are the worst IMO.

Also remember that the SS has a factory fill of Mobil1 oil, it would be a waste to change it early.

Well, I know just a little bit about surface finishes as I work in a bearing factory grinding and honing profiles into raceways. I don't think the engine manufacturers are near the Ra specs we use, especially in the aerospace components we make.
