Security Module Issue
I have a 2011 HHR with and it has a starting issue and everything pointed to the security module. It was towed into the dealer and they had it for 3 days and replaced the security module and they had to replace the keys because they couldn't get them to program to the new module.
I got the car back late in the day parked in the garage and went out the next morning and it had the same problem again it wouldn't start. The dealer has had the car 4 days and it appears they can figure it out. I have 2 mid 80's Chevy 4X4's that I built and would drive any where and not worry. But this car has me discussed and that is to bad because I really like it.

Do you have any other Chevy dealers close by?
It sounds like these current folks are not up to snuff either in their diagnostic techniques, or the ability to perform the repairs properly.
I'd talk to the service manager directly, and also the general manager, give them one more chance to perform the repairs....or have your HHR transported to another GM dealership.

Maybe time to try a different dealer. Not all dealers are the best at electrical problems. Unfortunately most dealers pay there tech on a flat rate scale it promotes techs that aren't that good at figuring out problems to make guesses instead of diagnosing problems properly. ( the faster they get done with one car the faster they can get to the next one and make more money) there are some really good techs out there that will spend the time and contact gm if needed you just need to find them. I say this from personal experience as a dealer automotive tech.
What is a "security Module"?
Do you mean that they replaced the steering column? That is what the key matches with.
Sounds like High School mechanics. I bet your issue is actually the shift solenoid, but since you did not elaborate......

From my understanding the security module is what reads the chip in the key. The car has a factory installed security system. I got the car for the second time and the mechanic acted like I was bothering buy asking him questions about the car and he stated to me that the car started so they have no idea what's wrong and after 4 days they gave it back. That was a Thursday afternoon and I drove it about a half dozen times between Thursday and Monday afternoon and it would not start again on Monday afternoon so I had it towed in on Tuesday morning. I called multiple times and finally they called me on Thursday afternoon and told me that it wouldn't start in the parking lot but the pushed it in the shop and it started. They have no idea what the problem is so they installed a body module and they have no idea if it repaired they just told me to come and get it.
This is a GM dealership? This is under warranty?
Something is missing in this story! A GM Service Department would have a TechII scanner to diagnose and fix most programing issues.
The "security module" you are describing is the Steering Column itself, they don't go bad, they could have been programed for too many new keys.
Does the car have Remote Start? Could be the hood latch switch is not operating as it should.
Seems to me your relationship with the shop is bad. You are not being told enough to make sense. Find a new GM shop, it does not have to be Chevrolet.
