Lightbulb Service Air Bag Light

Light/Message Just came on. 2008 with 120,000, Parked it everything was ok next morning light came on after starting. No codes using Tech2 clone. (B1000 sympton 00). Went thru all 189 pages and I seen nothing that helped. Car has never been in an accident, Don't see any coke/fluids in seat belt locks, Fuse are good. I took battery cables off and let it set for 1/2 hour, (nothing) ANY ideals. I'm running out of them.. retired and low on $$ LOL

This is a deal where DIY diagnostics aren't the way to go I'm afraid. When you're dealing with an issue involving the SRS system, your best bet is to head to your dealer or a trusted mechanic with a genuine Tech II and the diagnostic skills and training to back it up.

Airbags and explosive seat belt pretensioners can seriously injure or even kill you if not handled with care and respect, even in the diagnostic phase.

Hopefully your issue is a simple and cheap fix, but leave it to the professionals.

Yep are better off going to a dealer or a really good repair shop. The air bag codes aren't readable with most aftermarket scan tools. There are some out there but there expensive. As long as the light is on the fault is active and will disable the air bags. If the air bag light go's out the code will still be stored and the air bag will work until the time the fault shows up. A simple place to start is to check the fuses. If not a simple fuse then take it in for repair.

Check the connector under the passenger seat, also one behind the glove box after the battery (negative post) has been disconnected for 15 minutes. After the capacitor bleeds off the system is supposedly inert.

In fact, and to follow up with donbrew's suggestion, I would pull the car into the garage or driveway, remove the NEGATIVE CABLE from the battery and go in the house and have dinner. THEN go back out and check the wiring and connectors under the passenger seat.

The point.......you need to MAKE SURE the energy is dissipated from the capacitor.
