Service esc service traction
I hit a armadillo several months back. It blew the radiator, and the system over heated. Its been fine fir 30k miles since the ecm is separate from the obd, so resetting Does not affect the ecm dealers are the only people that can read it, but want a huge fee to check it. (Sounds like a monopoly that is illegal)
perhaps i sould ask if its a recall item.
the abs (and i think traction control) are working. Inspected the wiring and tubing in the wheel well, and under the gas tank look good. As did stuff around the radiator.
everyone has talked about it resetting automatically. Is this the norm, or would it need to be electronically reset?

Hi Patrick, to the forums!!
I moved your post to it's own thread, out of the SS specific section.
You're going to have to clarify, what is the issue?

You are totally wrong and/or using the wrong names for things.
And you seem to have left almost all of the story out.
What does hitting an armadillo have to do with anything? What are you trying to get programmed and why?
Why not just start at the beginning and leave "recall" and legal BS out of it.

Hitting an armadillo, would not be a warranty issue, a scanner to read the codes is not dealer only, and some places will read for free others charge a labour per hour rate.
Welcome to the site.
The damage would be possibly an insurance claim.

Would love to try and help but not sure "what" you're asking for.
Like Donbrew, I'll wait for a clearer post to read.

the display is saying the ecm is disabled and to have it serviced.
No one can service it because the ECM is separate from the ODB
IS there a way to reset the ECM?
Several posts here have mentioned it resetting automatically
The ABS part of the ECM does still appear to be working.
ONLY the traction control part seems disabled.

Is there a way to know what the error is in the ECM?

Like oldblue advised in post #4, you need to have the codes read. It will probably take a better(more expensive) reader than you or even your auto parts store has. Any good mechanic should have one. The code will be a letter followed by a 4 digit number, and possibly a suffix. Post it up here and we can go from there.

I think you are leaving a letter out of your parts. The EBCM,Electronic Brake Control Module, controls the ABS and traction control. It can be accessed from the OBD2 port, with the proper equipment.
Most likely your problem has something to do with the wheel speed sensors, or their wiring. The armadillo could have broken one or more of the wires.

I did use the wrong letter in my latest comment esc not ecm
How does the traction control system break a wheel?
Is that a transmission issue. Like I said initially, it overheated, there was transmission fluid all over under the vehicle
wow 30k miles in September. I was going to change the transmission fluid sooner, but definitely now.
Should I ask about traction control component of the transmission when I have them do that? (that is if its even done in the transmission)

I'll have to double check the codes. I didn't see any ESC codes last time.
It should know a wheel if one of the wires/sensors is bad. after all it has to know each anyway so it can know which is slipping compared to the other.
as noted in the OP, all the wires appear good.
Also, the sensors and wires must be fine because as I mentioned, the ABS is still working.
