Question Shake地 all over!

I have the same tires and the same problem, sort of. 59 mph to 62 I get a steering wheel shimmy. It smooths out above that speed. I have winter tires and wheels so I replaced one wheel/tire at a time and test drove it 4 times to figure out which tire was the culprit. Still the same shimmy. So 2 sets of wheels and tires doing the same thing eliminates tires/ wheels. I have newer rotors, wheels bearings ( both sides napa brand) struts, lower A arm/ ball joint and new greasable anti sway bar links. New rear brakes and drums and shocks. The shimmy is getting a little more noticeable. Whats left? CV axles going on today. With 198k on the meter, its time anyway and its the only thing left that rotates. Did some research and cv axles can cause a vibration or even a noise/ growl. . At 59 mph, I apply the brakes to see if there's any foot pedal or shake and there is none. It stops great and very smooth. CV axles are balanced so maybe a welded on weight fell off? Or they are just worn and that itself would throw off the balance. At any rate, I'll report back with hopefully good results soon.

Shimmy at those speeds RocketDawg , could be the upper engine mount is worn out!

Thank you, I'll look into that. I'm thinking a motor mount would be felt in the seat/ floor also. Mine is steering wheel only and just very slight. Could the motor mount being bad cause a steering wheel shimmy?
Motor mounts are fairly cheap, I might as well do that to.

It’s rather easy, just look thru the oblong hole in the passenger side front wheel well, if the bolt head for the serpentine belt tensioner is low in the hole, the motor mount is Kaput!

You were 100% correct, the motor mounts are kaput. The cv axles went in fairly easy. Side one was a pain. Side 2 went much easier. The shimmy in the steering wheel has diminished by about 50% but still there. New motor mounts this week. I'll report back with the good news.

I moved this to it’s own thread, please update us, are you changing the upper engine mount and all three transmission mounts?

Yes, all the mounts. And I agree with the move, I kinda hijacked the thread. The belt adjuster was low in the access hole like you mentioned. I should have it done by Saturday

I recently changed the motor and 2 of the tranny mounts.
I had a vibration getting progressively worse thru the steering wheel only at idle in gear with a a/c engaged.
It seemed to cause a flickering in the instrument cluster lites.
At first they flickered once in 5 minutes, but over the course of 6 months developed into almost constant flickering.
I changed the upper motor mount. The bolt head was low in the wheel well hole.
Changing that completely cured the vibration. The bolt head was still low in the wheel well hole.
The next day I changed the 2 lower tranny mounts.
Still have the drivers side upper mount to do.

My primary concern was to prevent cracking the exhaust.
