Spindle nut

I have tried removing the spindle nut on my 2009 LT but it won't budge. I have heated it with MAP gas, applied a lot of penetrating oil and let it soak but no luck. Using a breaker bar and extension pipe doesn't help. I have heard that using impact wrenches isn't a good idea for this although I've seen mechanics do just that. I do have an impact wrench that is a 12v electric type that is a bit different than the usual impact wrenches. It builds up momentum and then releases one sharp blow to do the job. I am wondering if using this impact wrench might round off the nut or damage the axle or CV.

Don't use impact to INSTALL. Fine to remove. The danger is cross threading and over torqueing.

Use the impact and the correct size socket. It should be a 30 mm

I will try my impact to remove the nut. It is 30mm. I have a torque wrench to install it if I can get it off. Thanks.

I suggest you order a new nut.

Hub axle nut - for FE1 and FE3 only - Use GM PN10289657 - NOTE: GM specifies they must be replaced, and not reused.

Yes, it's important to use a new spindle nut. My local NAPA has them in stock at a decent price. I will get a new one.
