squeeky hatch

I have an 07 HHR LS and have a problem with the hatch squeeking. I have tried ajusting the blocks either side of the hatch and used a dealer lub for the the door rubber. Neither seem to work. Need some help with this problem if anyone has had the same problem and found a fix I would like to hear from you.

After months of hearing my mysterious chirp from the rear, I tracked it down to a metal bracket on the driver's side. Under the side window, where the upper and lower plastic panels meet, there is a bracket that runs front-to-back. It bolts to the rear metal right above the tail-light access hole. I had to remove the upper plastic panel (the one that goes around the side window) to access the bolts. After backing them out, I applied a little silicone sealant and put it back together. No more chirp.

You can just pop out the access cover (the one that you use to change tail light bulbs) the grab the side panel and move it in & out to see if that is your noise before you take everything apart.

Hope that is YOUR noise.

I had the same problem as the OP. The dealer kept insisting that it was a million different things and I tried telling them it was the hatch mechanism. They would not listen to me because the hatch wouldn't feel loose when trying to move it. I told them it was the actual assembly that was allowing the door to squeek sometimes. All they kept doing was tightening the hatch and at first it would work for a day or two, but then as they kept going, it would last shorter and short lengths of time. finally getting to the point where the hatch was adjusted so tight, that it was getting real hard to open it and it was still squeeking anyway

Well after 5 different trips to the dealer and 5 different "fixes" that didn't work, they finally listened to me and replace the actual latch assembly and it's been fine ever since (going on 3 months).

to the forum Ersky!

Both Putter and Rod Run have good ideas for a source of the squeak, something to check into.
