Exclamation SS Wont Idle - No Codes

Hi Guys

Long Time Lurker First Time Poster

2010 HHR SS

Stage Kit installed at the factory

(NO Codes right now)

Initial Problem:
wife drove the car to the store and said she hit a bump in the parking lot, car died and did not restart

towed the car home, the car started and ran (in the driveway) fine

restarted the car several times to see if it was intermittent, it was (it happened again)

once it happened it would most often start and then almost immediately die.

(I did not know about limp mode at the time and it was probably just going in/out of limp mode)

Work Done:
Pulled codes: got P0106 (MAP) and P0101 Code (MAF)

Replaced MAP & MAF sensors No Change

Also Replaced the Turbocharger Wastegate Regulator Solenoid Valve (broke a Nipple)
I have also pulled the battery and fuse to try and engage learning mode after each attempt (cleared DTCs first)

Current Problem:
The Car Idles, Runs, and Drives Fine (No Turbo) in limp mode

Right now, when I start the car (Not in Limp Mode) , it will start then immediately die, or if it does idle, it lopes, bouncing from about 800 to maybe 1200 for a while, and eventually dies,

It will rev fine after most starts, but occasionally it will just bog down and fight back and die, I can hold an idle at about 2000 rpm at the lowest, but it's super rough and sputtering, and the smell is heavy fuel

NO CODES

and then of course when I pull the MAF connector it goes into limp mode, runs fine (no turbo) and throws MAF Code

Thoughts / Ideas?

Just an FYI. There were no stage kits installed at the factory. They could only be done at the dealership back when the SS’s were new.
As far as your problem. Try another code reader. With all you have going on, seems like a code or 2 should be present.

My guess is a wire or fuse got jostled loose from the bump. We have had a wife/son/daughter hit a small bump that turned into a large bump upon investigation; busted oil pans, bent rims etc.

I'm still hoping it's just a wire or fuse. I have pulled and re-set all fuses under the hood and in the kick panel, and still moving around wires, but you would almost think if it was a wire, I would get some kind of code, I'm wondering if there are any sensors that can go bad without sending a code..

This particular Car was purchased in Detroit from the head of warranty (his personal car lol), by myself at 17k miles, and yes he had it installed before purchase, most likely at the factory, (perhaps the nearest dealership) but I get your point, :)

as for the code reader, it is working fine and pulls codes and live readings with

Car scanner https://play.google.com/store/search...=apps&hl=en_US
Torque Pro https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...orque&hl=en_US

with various ELM327 Readers via bluetooth

It DOES have other codes such as C0035 for a wheel speed sensor (that is not part of this problem), and as I said, If I pull the MAP plug or MAF Plug, it will send a code accordingly, so I do not see where the reader is would be bad. Perhaps you could elaborate or enlighten me?

There are two MAP sensors. If the “stage kit” of which you speak is the GM Turbo Upgrade (GMTU,) it involved swapping in 2 MAP sensors. Which one did you replace? With what?

An early installation would have crimped the connectors. Those crimps can change resistance over time due to corrosion, etc., and wreck havoc. Later, pigtail adaptors became the norm

The lower MAF sensor comes with special instructions that involve trimming off some plastic, and if not followed, trouble ensues.

About this little bump… could it have involved a disagreement with a curb or parking block, resulting in damage to the intercooler and an intake leak?

I love it when folks say "well, there is a code but it has nothing to do with this". Have you read the codes since the behavior started or just assumed that is the only reason for the CEL? You do know that the ESC can control of the throttle?
What is the digital temp?
What does the freeze frame say?
Any permanent or pending codes?

C0035 code indicates problem with left front wheel speed sensor, check the connection at the wheel bearing hub, clean and secure? This code will affect several other functions. Have the front hubs ever been replaced?

We’ve seen it a lot over the years. People will come on here and say No Codes. We advise to try another code reader. Sometimes they’ll see codes not seen before.
I have the Torque and Torque Lite apps on 2 different phones. Those aren’t always perfect at pulling codes. Just saying.

Your 2010 SS has the RPD unit on the dash. Check some of the functions like Air Fuel ratio. You’ll probably see some abnormal readings when the engine is running bad.
Those readings may point to the problem.
