Stagnant odour from A/C and no horn

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing these problems. I have an intermittent problem with my horn not working. Took it into the dealer and they tightnened the mount. Still not working all of the time. Secondly, I noticed that there is a musty odour when I turn on my A/C and vents, especially after a rain storm. Anyone else?

Thanks

Check for a tutorial by the member Tooter here, to re-glue your vinyl butyle patch under your front cowl!! And do it soon because your blower resistor and motor will eventually fry. I had the EXACT same thing and this tutorial fixed my problem. Water is getting into your cabin filter and will eventually start shorting things out.

EDIT: Never mind, found it, it took me (a beginner) about 2 hours. Here you go!

Thx, I checked the cabin filter and it was dry, but a a bit grey with a couple oakleaf keys. I noticed that the liner is detached from the windshiled in a few places.....is it supposed to be airtight? If so, definately a problem:

So you got the cowl off ok i assume? The black vinyl patch was still holding ok? I would assume the liner would have to be airtight yes, not sure if its a do-it-yourself job or not tho, i never like messing with windshield stuff.

Keep in mind it is charcoal impregnated. That is why it is grey - not necessarily from dirt.

It's been my experience that I change my Cabin air filter twice a year. It's kinda ridiclious, but I get that musty smell all of the time. GM definately made a bad design here. If you look in the pleats of the filter you will probably see tree sap, and the occasional fly or other insect.

Just replace the filter and that odor will be gone.

I had a musty smell come from my vents. I had it looked at a few times by the dealership. On one occassion they sprayed some mold killer (essentially lysol) into the cabin air intake with the fan on high for a few minutes. This helped for a few days but the smell returned. They mentioned that I should run the fan on high for a few minutes before shutting the vehicle off in warm weather so as to try to eliminate any moisture from the cooling fins (on the condenser or whatever.) I told them that is not an acceptable solution.

I found a TSB related to this sort of problem and talked with them about it. They agreed to install the new parts as per the TSB. This was something called an afterblow feature (or something very similar.) What this module does is cycle on the fan every now and then to dry off the fins which mitigates moisture and hence mold and mildew build up. If you search around I think I have posts about that and possible the TSB posted as well.
