Steering Column Rattle
Steering Column Rattle
Im sure this has been covered before but I am posting about the absurd steering column rattle.
I actually have a 2009 Cobalt SS Sedan. Same platform. I have been trying to track down this rattle in my column. I've replaced all other components except the actual steering column. I know there was old TSB relating to this.
The part number for the Cobalt is 19209157. The HHR part number 1909158. For some reason I remember reading some where that the HHR column is slightly better versus the cobalt. Most of the cobalt people who have replaced the column claim the rattle comes back after a year or so many miles. I am looking for a more permanent fix. I find it outrageous to pay over $300 for a column and the rattle to come back in a year.
My question is...Have any of you HHR guys replaced their column and have the issue return? Has anyone successfully had the dealer replaced the column after the warranty is out? If I show I proof of the TSB would the dealer be willing to replace the column?
Any input is greatly appreciated.

I don't know of any frequent problem with the column. Usually just the intermediate shaft.
A TSB is directions for a repair, not a recall or extended warranty.

My rattle was the intermediate shaft, there is a possibility the HHR colour is better but I've not read anything to confirm that.
Perhaps contact your local pick a part and have them check their Hollander book to see what fits where.
The 19209157 shows for the Cobalt SS manual transmission!

The 19209158 show for the HHR LS / LT without active brake controls

Maybe there's a superseded part number, I suggest your GM part counter for the clarification.
