MY check engine light seems like come on and off a lot. This last time it came on and everything seemed fine, went to work and all. When I went to lunch I got in and I noticed a new chime noise, other than the usual seat belt one. It sounds louder and more like some sort of an alarm and lasts about a min. I cant find any thing wrong and there are no system messages. Has this happened to anyone else?

 

it happened in my cobalt(same car pretty much) a long time ago. turned out to be a door sensor. the car thought that the door was opening while i was driving and chimed like crazy. was under warranty so i dont know the cost of the part

 

Must be the same sort of chiming alarm when you have your turn signal on too long.

Check your door switches, if you only use the driver's door and only use the others sporadically, the switches can get corroded from lack of use. Push them a few times with your finger until they free up.

As for the check engine light, it could be one of a hundred things. You can always have your codes pulled by an auto parts store like Advance, etc. Then post up the code/codes and we can figure out what you might have going on.

Its weird, I will try the door thing. I just know that it drives me nuts every time I start it up the beep lasts for a minute. I went to advance auto to plug it up to the computer and the check engine light went right off and hasnt been on again. It does this over and over..
