Strange HHR problem

Hi! When we go more than an hour away, on our way back, our 2011 HHR sputters a bit, hesitates when shifting, almost stalls at red lights. We thought it was this particular gas station where we go in remote Maine might have water in their pumps, because gas treatment does help, but it did it when we went up north too. Maybe all remote Maine gas stations have watery gas, but I doubt it. Otherwise, driving around town or 20 min trips no problems.

Are you forgetting to mention a CheckEngineLight? How is the coolant temperature? Read the digital gauge not the needle.

Temp is fine. Engine light has been on constantly since the last time they serviced it for the blinkers turning on by themselves. My husband takes for regular service.oil change. He says seafoam and good gas has helped. Thanks for replying!

Go to the local auto parts store and get the codes that are causing the light. Then come back here with the NUMBERS i.e.:P0128.
"temp is fine" is not good enough; I don't know what you perceive as "fine". Correct is: gets to 180F in less than 5 minutes then stays between 180 and 217; NEVER lower than 180.

Welcome Lisa, as Donbrew states, the actual code numbers please, write them down, or get them printed out and post them here. I don’t want to guess and possibly cost you , your engine!

If you get someone to check the codes, you might also ask them to read the ethanol % if they can. Then, post the actual codes number (not an interpretation) also post whether you ever pump E85, and if so, what you’ve put in it recently.
