Sunroof Pop, Clunk, Thunk, Type Noise

Just bought a new 2009 HHR with sunroof. When the sunroof just gets to the fully open position there is a loud pop noise. It sounds like the cardboard shade may be a part of the noise. I can open the sunroof a little at a time or quick and everything is fine until about the last two inches. It makes the same noise just as it starts to close also. Same two inch spot.

Any ideas as to what is causing this? I could take it to the dealer, but life rarely gives you the time to do so conveniently.

Thanks.

Mine has actually started doing something very similar. Right near the end of being fully open there is a snapping sound. I haven't really tried to figure out what it is yet. If you do take it into the dealership I would love to hear what they find.

My HHR is out of warranty so if something does break I'm on the hook for the cost.

Ok, you're probably not going to like this solution. But, then again maybe you will!

My wife (God bless her) couldn't leave bad enough alone. So, she got to messing with the sunroof. In the process of looking for a potential problem in the mechanism she ended up getting her head caught in the sunroof.

Odd thing is, it works now!

Mine makes a clicking noise, but when I open or close the shade. I think there was a TSB about this....some insulation falling down or something....

She likes to tell people she fixed it by "using her head."
