Synthetic over Conventional Oil????
My DIC just dropped to 19% after 10,600 miles on my last Mobil 1 oil change. I'll probably change it either this weekend or next weekend. I have a jug of Mobil 1 and an AC Delco oil filter on the shelf. I just to have to get the motivation.
Guys. You like Mobil 1. Probably Mobil 1 in America is different from Mobil 1, which we have in Russia. We prefer Castrol or Motul.
Mobil 1 produces a lot of carbon on the inner surfaces of the engine. I think a guilty violation of production technology. We have such a thing.

And they have been on M1 since first oil change.. My bikes..
It sounds like most people run Synthetic then?
I have the 2.4L in my 2009, and when I took it into the dealer for its initial oil change I asked for them to use M1 5W30...
The guy at the service desk told me to not waste my money, that it wasn't needed. I've been putting in regular dino oil, and am now at 27k....
I'm still thinking I should switch to M1 since I really do want (aka NEED) my HHR to last me a good long time. It gets driven a LOT. I generally change my oil currently every 5-6k.
Is either conventional or synthetic recommended for the 2.4L (no turbo)?
I used to put M1 and Wix Filters on my Trailblazer - I assume this would be a wise move for my HHR as well, and I should just put my foot down with my dealership service guy?

the 2.4 & 2.2 come with dino oil in them.. I use M1 in my 2.4 & that makes me content.
Since you're not doing your own oil changes, tell them what YOU want, after all, you pay the bill..
the HHR SS has a 2.0 w/Turbo (only one with a turbo) & comes with M1
Anymore most dino oils have really advanced in technology..But I still prefer the M1..

Does anybody know the name and address of the guy in the white coat who tears down and microscopically inspects every model of engine every year every 100 miles with every different oil? Get the drift? When Synthetic oil was first sold back in the dark ages, it was touted that "you would never have to change your oil again".... then came the realization from the Marketing Department, "Duh, how do you sell more of it then? " I put 50K on a vehicle each year and usually go to 200-300K, and found that if I use the recommended spec oil in a Synthetic (any brand on sale) and a filter every 30K I have no problems. I do not care about the next guy, because the rest of the car is pretty much used up by the time I'm done! I know that everybody will jump me for this, but I change the filter every 15K and the oil (synthetic) every 30K.
And, BTW the DIC does not do anything other than count to 15K, at least on my 2008 LT; does not matter driving conditions or anything else 15K! that's it.

If you are speaking of the Oil Life Indicator, you ARE absolutely wrong and I would bet a very large sum of money on it ! But, this is whipping a dead horse. It has been discussed and displayed with adequate support to show YOU ARE WRONG.
The rest of your "brag" I believe. I know to other people that do exactly the same thing with their oil changes. One does it with conventional fossil oil.
