Hello guys,

I am needing some advice here. I recently bought my HHR about 4 months ago.. About 1 month ago I notice the temp gauge while sitting in idling it will go past the 1/2 mark and as soon as I take off it will lower down. This past week I am in heavy traffic and it was 1 mark before the red line. It will start climbing as soon as I was in a red light or idling. I went home and there in my parking lot I can see it climb again. What I did is I added water and not the temp gauge is 1/4 below the middle of the temp gauge. The question is is that normal? Now when I got the car I did not check any fluid so I cannot tell you if it was needing water or not...

Or do you think its the thermostat?

Also my hhr is 2.2L and has 44,000 miles its a 2009...

Forget the gauge!

Cycle the DIC for the actual temps and post that.

 

Teh gauge readings where before adding the water 226 - 235 after adding the water 196 - 206... from the ones that I could read...

196 to 206 is in the normal range.

Looks like you were low on coolant.

Pay attention on how to check that (marks on coolant overflow tank and documented in the owner manual).

 

I also noticed that when I was adding more water to the over flow tank for the most part the water was draining. I guess the over flow tank has some sort of orifice where it does not allow the tank to be filled to the neck part.. Is that normal? Also the car has not over heated eversince.. I will continue to monitor the car....

 

No, there is no overflow orifice. Check the tank to ensure the hose leading to the rad is attached and secure. And inspect the tank for cracks or holes.

 

I will go ahead and do that today... Also the car has been running 189 on highway and 192 on street..At the moment Dallas Temperature is 89 or 86..When it was over heating it was 96 degress outside...
