For those that have had power steering fail
For those that have had power steering fail
My 07 LS steering is not as easy as my 08 LT. It still works and I have not seen any messages in the dic. but I wonder if it's starting to die a slow death. Did anyone have symptoms before the power steering motor failed or am I just thinking too much?
I noticed, after installing new SS suspension on my LT, the steering was a little loose, and not up to my satisfaction. I credited the problem to new Bridgestone tires that were also installed. However, after having an alignment done to SS spec's (because of the lowering from the SS suspension) there was a noticeable difference with a subjective change of maybe 20-25% better handling, from the LT suspension that it replaced.

I'm going to let it go for awhile and see what happens. I have found that as it is getting colder when not moving it takes a lot to move the wheel. I look for it to fail in the near future. I have not seen any messages yet but we will see.
Back in the days of pre-electric power steering, GM cars suffered from "Morning Sickness" where the steering racks would begin to fail and until the hydraulic fluid warmed up...you could feel the steering bind to the point of not being able to budge the wheel.
You may have a bad rack and pinion assembly that's beginning to bind internally(due to a failed grease boot and lack of lubrication), or an upper strut mount that's beginning to bind up and introduce more steering effort.
Keep an eye on it, if it gets markedly worse, time to go through the front end components.
