Ticking sound ...

I own a 2010 Chevy HHR that has an annoying ticking sound while driving first thing in the morning. It goes away after about 10 minutes. I've had several mechanics look at it and no ne seems to know what causes the sound. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the site, more detailed info will help diagnose your ticking noise. What engine ,transmission, model, moving, turning, A/C on or off. Fan on or off?

It's a four cylinder HHR. I don't know what kind of transmission it has except that it is automatic. The ticking noise started about three months ago. It begins when the car is started after overnight parking in the driveway. It can be heard with or without the heat and air on/off. It generally starts upon acceleration to street or highway speed and stops after about 10 minutes or so of normal driving. It cannot be heard while coasting or cruising at normal speeds. The car is well maintained and not driven hard. Thanks.

Thats Variable Valve Timing. It depends on oil pressure.

Might also be a small crack in the exhaust flex pipe.

Could be. I meant for that to be included in my comment about VVT.
